Shopping calendar 2026/27: the cheapest time to buy almost anything
Prime events, Singles' Day, Black Week, January sales: know the discount calendar and you buy the same products for considerably less. All the dates, plus the best category for each event.
Discounts follow a calendar — and if you know it, you save without a single trick, purely through timing. Here is the roadmap through the rest of 2026 and into spring 2027, with an honest verdict on which event is worth it for which purchases, and which you can safely skip.
August–September: back to school & the seasonal changeover
Late summer is the quiet saving season: school and office supplies, backpacks, mid-range laptops and stationery cycle through promotions, while summer stock (garden, barbecue, fans) heads into clearance. The end-of-season rule: everything you will not need until next summer is at its cheapest now — not in May, when demand returns.
Early October: Prime Big Deal Days
Amazon's autumn event days (Prime members only) are the unofficial starting gun for bargain season. Discounted hardest: Amazon's own devices — Echo, Fire TV, Kindle — along with accessories and small home electronics. For everything else: note the prices, but hold back. Much of it will cost the same or less six weeks later during Black Week.
11 November: Singles' Day
The shopping day imported from China has taken hold in the UK and Europe mainly in fashion, beauty and small electronics. Big-ticket tech (TVs, laptops) rarely reaches its best prices of the year here — but in fashion, the real discounts often beat Black Friday's. If clothing or cosmetics are on your list, buy on 11.11; if it is tech, wait two weeks.
23–30 November: Black Week, Black Friday & Cyber Monday
Black Friday 2026 falls on 27 November, Cyber Monday on the 30th — with Black Week stretching across the days before and between, by which point most retailers have long started their campaigns. It is the broadest discount window of the year, with no membership requirement, and the best time for: TVs, laptops, headphones, major appliances and toys ahead of Christmas. Two warnings belong in every calendar: first, the "up to 70% off" posters apply to only a handful of items; second, this week is high season for inflated was-prices — the fake-discount check is mandatory homework here.
December: the most expensive time of the year
Between Cyber Monday and Christmas Eve, prices climb again — Christmas demand pays any price. Only gift sets, voucher promotions and the odd clearance leftover are worth a look. Anything that does not have to sit under the tree moves to the January list.
January: the winter sales and a fitness sweet spot
After the festive season, retailers clear out: winter fashion, home textiles and decorations drop sharply. The underrated winner is everything around sport and fitness — New Year's resolutions do drive demand, but competition between sellers is so fierce that equipment, wearables and accessories are regularly cheaper in January and February than during the rest of the year.
Spring 2027: Amazon spring sale & Easter
March traditionally brings a spring promotion week focused on garden, household and fitness; around Easter, toy and confectionery promotions follow. And in summer the cycle starts over: Prime Day — in 2026 it ran from 23 to 26 June — once again delivers the year's best prices on Amazon hardware and many electronics categories.
